All you need is the simple truth

Quitting smoking does not have to be a matter of will power or discipline. It is much simpler than that. Just know the truth and then you will be free - to do exactly what you want, which is what you always do anyway.

Smoking is a substitute for breathing

Breathing is the Real Thing - infinitely more satisfying, infinitely more refreshing, and without the negative side effects. Breathing is what you really want when you think you want a smoke.

Breathing is good for you!

The most important thing to realize is it's not your fault. You were taught to smoke by highly educated, highly paid expert drug pushers who did not have your best interests at heart. You were addicted by sophisticated drugs.

Strip away the social patterns, concepts of comfort, habits, and look at the basic biochemistry: One puff of smoke (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, marijuana, opium, crack, campfire - it doesn't matter what) introduces 375,000 free radicals into your body. Multiply that by the number of puffs you take in a day, and you are giving yourself a truly astronomical number of free radicals. Now there are systems in place in your body to neutralize free radicals. But these systems are extremely overworked. You are routinely bombarded with more free radicals in ten minutes than your great grandparents faced in their entire lives - and that's without smoking. When you consider that all it can take to get cancer, for example, is one free radical in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that free radical damage is the cause of all disease and aging - is this what you really want to do to yourself?

If it is, go right ahead and keep doing it.

But if you would rather pursue health, if you would rather breathe the real way, the natural way as ordained by Nature instead of the clever manipulations of corporations, consider this:

Every once in a while (everybody has a different pace, a different rhythm) you need a smoke. About the time you would pause for a smoke (the substitute), that is the natural call for you to focus on your breathing and breathe consciously for a few moments - about the same amount of time it would take for you to complete your smoke.

This pause for conscious breathing will refresh and energize you so effectively that it makes the illusion of refreshment and energization you get from the substitute totally stupid by comparison. But knowing that, if you still want to do it, go right ahead. You have permission to choose sickness and death. But if you want the real thing, do it! It will take practice to be sure, but just think of all the practice you had learning how to smoke.

If you are smoking as a form of slow suicide, so be it.

But if you think you are smoking for pleasure, consider this: There is no high you can get from any kind of smoking (or other drug) that can compare to the high you can get from breathing. Conscious breathing can take you ALL THE WAY THERE! Smoking cannot. No smoke, no drug of any kind can make that claim and be telling the truth.

If you think about quitting smoking as a huge, insurmoutable task, consider this: You only have to not smoke one cigarette, the next one. I'm very serious about this. I have been not smoking that one cigarette for over 30 years. If I can do it, you can do it! Anybody can not smoke one cigarette - or cigar, or pipe, or marijuana, or opium, whatever your poison.
