Minerals, Free Radicals,
Acids, & Calcium

The medical paradigm is failing, drastically, and we are living only half of our lives, both in quality and quantity. This is particularly tragic because the knowledge exists to allow us to live our lives in real health and full measure.

What is an Atom?
An atom is the smallest particle of an element. Elements are the particles of the matter that makes up the material world. The term "matter" is deceiving, since the material world is not really material. It's basic components are made up of pure energy, or electrical charges. An atom is composed of three parts, protons, neutrons, and electrons. Neutrons have a neutral electrical charge, protons a positive electrical charge, electrons a negative. Protons and neutrons combine to form the nucleus or the positively charged central part of the atom, while the negatively charged electrons form the outer part, spinning around the nucleus in orbits like planets around the sun.

In a stable atom, there are an equal number of positively charged protons and negatively charged electrons, resulting in a balanced or neutral charge. But atoms can become imbalanced, meaning there are fewer or more electrons than protons in their structure, giving these atoms electrical charges, either positive or negative, making them imbalanced and unstable. In biophysiology, sometimes that is a good thing; sometimes it is a bad thing - as we will see.

Electrons can be thought of as planets orbiting a central sun, arranged around the nucleus in concentric rings called shells.

These shells are numbered outward from the nucleus, with the first shell holding a maximum of only two. The maximum number of electrons found in each shell can be calculated by a mathematical formula which can become quite large, but this is only a theoretical maximum. Most of the time with the simpler elements, the shells will fill up with as maximum of 8 electrons and then start the next shell. However the first shell will always hold only 2.

Atoms are most stable when they have 8 electrons in their outer-most shell and two in their first shell. Most elements have all their electrons in five shells.

Free Radicals
Free radical is a term used to describe an atom or molecule (group of atoms bound together by shared electrons) that is unstable because it is missing an electron or electrons in its outer shell. This makes the atom or molecule search out and take electrons from other stable atoms or molecules, in other words, it makes it "reactive," and it will "react" with other elements. This action causes the stable atom or molecule to become unstable and a free radical itself. This new free radical will do the same thing in turn, and a chain reaction of electron stealing will occur. Every time an electron is ripped from an atom or molecule a tiny atomic explosion occurs, and when the atom or molecule is part of a cell structure, this causes cellular damage.

Free radical damage is the beginning of the aging process and just about every disease. This has been known to science for many years but medicine seems to refuse to recognize it. In the medical textbooks there is an abundance of information about free radicals being the cause of disease but medical practitioners don't use that information. Some doctors will acknowledge that free radicals are the basic cause of disease, but since they don't have any drugs to treat free radicals, they continue to administer drugs that only treat the symptoms and are in themselves sources of more free radicals.

Dr. Denham Harmon, MD, PhD, is the father of the free radical paradigm of aging. He was the first to propose that the indiscriminate chemical reactivity of free radicals led to biological damage.

Anti-oxidants
The most common and dangerous free radical is the oxygen radical. We need oxygen to live, and oxidation is a key process in life, but it can easily turn into a source of disease and death. Since oxidation in the wrong place at the wrong time is free radical damage, any substance that neutralizes the oxygen free radical was given the name "anti-oxidant," and then any substances that neutralize any free radicals came to be called "anti-oxidants."

An antioxidant is an atom or molecule that is imbalanced with "extra" or loosely held electrons in its outermost shell that it can give up easily to neutralize a free radical without tunring into a free radical itself, or it can be simply a free electron unattached to any atom or molecule. Common antioxidants are Vitamin C and E, phytonutrients such as Proanthocyanidins, beta carotene, ellagic acid, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, cesium, and rubidium.

It is important that we take in antioxidants with our food every day because of the high numbers of free radicals in our environment, both internal and external. We are routinely exposed to more free radical attack in ten minutes than our great grandparents had to face during their entire lives.

In 1954, when Dr. Harmon made his free radical and antioxidant discoveries, there were only a few antioxidants identified. Today it is known that a wide variety of antioxidants exist and are needed to neutralize the huge array of free radicals that are found in our environment. No longer are Vitamins E and C, zinc, and selenium sufficient, with the tens of thousands of complicated chemical substances present in today's world.

pH - Acid and Alkaline
The effect of acids is the same as the effect of free radicals. Acids are free radicals but with only hydrogen being the substance doing the damage. Hydrogen, with only one electron in its outer and only shell, cannot ever be stable and is a free radical in its basic state. An acid is a fluid that has a high concentration of positive hydrogen ions.

The pH scale measures the "potential of hydrogen", that is the positively charged hydrogen ions (H+) and the negatively charged hydroxide ions (OH-). Notice that if you combine the two, you get a water molecule: H+ + OH- = HOH = H2O

The pH (potential of Hydrogen) scale goes from zero to fourteen, zero being completely acid, fourteen being completely alkaline. Seven is neutral, neither acid nor alkaline. Above seven is alkaline, below seven is acidic. A pH test involves the use of litmus paper or some other apparatus to measure the amount and kinds of hydrogen ions present in a solution.

Each unit of pH measurement represents a tenfold difference of the H+ and OH- concentration. A solution of pH 5 is not twice as acidic as a solution of pH 7, but a hundred times more acidic. So when the pH of a solution changes even slightly, it changes the concentrations of H+ and OH- substantially. The pH of your blood must remain constant between 7.35 and 7.45. If it were to drop only to 7.3 and remain there, you would die in a very short time. That is only one tenth of a unit on the scale but it represents a doubling of the amount of positively charged hydrogen ions in your blood, making you twice as acidic as you need to be.

So even small changes in the pH scale can be disastrous. When people do saliva pH tests and their reading comes out at 6.5, sometimes they say, "That's not too bad." But it is bad. Their saliva is nine times more acidic than it is supposed to be; that is 900% more acidic. The pH levels of saliva can be a fairly accurate indicator of the general health of the body. People with known diseases almost always register acidic, between 4.5 and 7.0. Healthy people register an alkaline 7.0 - 7.5.

The exception is people who smoke. Their bodies are so acidic that minerals are being pulled out of their bones and concentrated in the mouth area where the free radicals from the smoke are most concentrated, and this can give a false (too alkaline) reading to the saliva test.

Free radicals make the body acidic, which leads to disease. One puff of tobacco or marijuana or any other kind of smoke introduces 375,000 free radicals into the body. Multiply that times the number of puffs in a day, and is that something you want to do to your body?

The fluids in our bodies must be kept properly alkaline in order for all the biological functions to take place correctly. If we become even slightly acidic we will die, so the body compensates by pulling minerals from bones, organs, and tissues in order to keep us properly alkaline.

Dr Arthur Guyton, MD, one of the most recognized authors on human physiology, author of Textbook of Medical Physiology which is used to train medical students, has said:

"The first step in maintaining health is to alkalize the body. The cells of a healthy body are alkaline, while the cells of a diseased body are acidic, below a pH of 7.0. The more acidic the cells, the sicker we become. If the body cannot alkalize the cells they become acidic and thus disease sets in. Our bodies produce acid as a byproduct of normal metabolism. But our bodies do not manufacture alkalinity, so we must supply the alkalinity from an outside source to keep us from becoming acidic and dying."

The key to acieving and maintaining health is supplying your body with minerals (alkalizing agents) from an outside source. But not all mineral forms are bioavailable, and our food is generally being raised on land that is minerally deficient and therefore our food is minerally deficient. Study after study has shown how much our food has decreased in quality and is continuing to decrease. See United States Senate Document 264

In 1948, a cup of spinach contained 158 mg of Iron. By 1965, a cup of spinach contained only 27 mg of iron. Today, a cup barely contains 2 mg. You would have to eat 79 cups of spinach in order to get the same nutritional content that you would have gotten from one cup of spinach just over fifty years ago. This is not going to get better.

Supplementation is not just an option. Supplementation is a necessity, if you care about your health.

Ionic Minerals
Since the minerals you need are not in your food anymore, you can't get them from your food. Furthermore, minerals have to be in the proper form or the body cannot use them anyway and will excrete them unused if possible or they will form harmful deposits in blood vessels, joints, kidneys, gall bladder, and around organs. When you see "calcium" on the labels of so much of the prepackaged food in the stores, is that calcium really good for you? Most of that calcium is very poorly absorbed. So why do they add it to the products? The answer is, because it is cheap, and they will sell more of the product because people think it is good for them because it says "calcium added" or "calcium enriched" on the label.

What do I mean by "minerals have to be in the proper form or the body cannot use them?" Let's look at a water molecule. It is common knowledge that water is made up of two atoms of Hydrogen and one atom of Oxygen. Now the atomic weight of hydrogen is 1.008 and the atomic weight of oxygen is 16. There are two atoms of hydrogen, which add up to an atomic weight of 2.016, and one of oxygen, which makes 16 atomic weight. So, by weight, there is about eight times as much oxygen in water as there is hydrogen. Water is mostly oxygen, but can you breathe it? Of course not! What this illustrates is that necessary elements can be bound up in chemical formulations that makes them unusable to the body. You would have to split up the water molecule into hydrogen and oxygen before you could breath that oxygen. The same thing happens with minerals. They are locked up in forms that are unusable to the body, and they pass through undissolved and unused, or worse, they remain in the body and deposit on the outside of organs and form deposits in joints and stones in kidneys and bone spurs. Any mineral you take into your body has to either be in the ionized form or it has to be converted into the ionized form through the process of digestion or it cannot be used by the body.

Ionized means they are broken down into single atoms and that they have an electrical charge because they have gained or lost electrons. Most elements will either gain or lose electrons or bind themselves to other atoms forming molecules or salts with shared electrons in order to become stable. In general, unstable atoms that have less than half their fill on the outer electron shell will lose electrons to become stable, and thus become positively charged (calcium - C++), while those with more than half will take on electrons to stabilize themselves.

Calcium
Calcium is a mineral with some very unique characteristics which make it indispensable for life. First of all, calcium has twenty electrons. Two in the first shell, eight in the second, eight in the third, and two in the fourth, outermost, shell. This means that calcium is an electron donor. It will readily give up the two electrons in its outermost shell. These electrons can be used to neutralize free radicals, thus making calcium a powerful anti-oxidant.

But the calcium ion has a full outer shell after giving up its two electrons, therefore, it is stable and will not act as a free radical. And ionic calcium is the only biologically active form of calcium in the human body. There are 147 known uses for calcium in the body. A deficiency of calcium is called hypocalcemia. Scientists have given the name "ionic calcium deficiency disease" as the initiator for over 150 different diseases. Calcium is truly the most important mineral for our existence. But, remember, as important as this mineral is, all of its forms except the ionic form are totally useless to the body and by itself as an isolate it is also useless. To be useful it must be taken in combintation with over 70 other ionic minerals.

How can the doubly positively charged calcium ion (Ca++) be so good and important to the body if positively charged atoms are free radicals? In defining a free radical it is more important that the atom or molecule is stable than if it has an electrical charge. When an atom or molecule is unstable it is a free radical regardless of whether there is an electrical charge or not. Hydrogen in its natural state (with no electrical charge) is a free radical because it has only one electron in its outer shell, making it unstable. Why ionic calcium is so important is because it already gave up not one but two electrons to stop free radicals from continuing the chain reaction of electron ripping and damaging balanced atoms and molecules within cellular structures.

There is no other element that can take the place of calcium. Its size, its number of electrons, the way they are positioned in the shells - make calcium unique and indispensible.

A few of the 147 roles that ionic calcium plays in the body are as follows:

It is crucial for the formation and maintenance of bones and teeth.
It keeps the blood, lymph, and body alkaline.
It is part of the substance that holds the cells together.
It is crucial for muscle contractions and relaxations (including the heart).
It is used for urine filtration.
It regulates the opening of cells for nutrient transport through the cell walls and allows the transport of nutrients into the cells.
It allows brain and nerve cells to communicate with each other.
It acts as a battery producing voltage for all biochemical reactions with the body.
It is responsible for DNA replication and triggers DNA synthesis in a fertilized egg.
It is an essential building block of enzymes and hormones.
It helps balance blood components.

A deficiency of ionic calcium leads to the development of over 150 different diseases. Bone spurs, kidney stones, and gallstones are caused by a lack of ionic calcium not by an excess of calcium as the obsolete medical paradigm states. When our bodies become acidic because of lack of minerals in our diets, our bodies have no choice but to leech calcium out of our bones to neutralize the acid. Unfortunately, when our bodies do this, the calcium is not efficiently used and builds up to form these stones or bone spurs. We know this is the way it really works because scientists have given calcium with radioactive markers to subjects and none of the dietary calcium showed up in the stones or bone spurs. One hundred percent of the calcium in the stones and bone spurs came from the leeching process of the bones. Remember this if someone ever tells you that you have too much calcium in your blood. Too much calcium in the blood indicates a raging calcium deficiency. Reducing your calcium intake will only make it worse causing more stones and osteoporosis. All of the new medical books are teaching this new paradigm, but not all doctors have heard the news, which leads to disastrous problems for their patients.

Coral Calcium, the King of Supplements
The importance of ionic calcium is beyond question. Now let's take a look at the exceptional qualities of coral calcium. There are many coral products on the market today, but they are not all equal. There are more than 2,500 different species of coral in the world, but only Sango Coral from Okinawa has a natural mineral composition almost identical to that of human bone, which makes it ideally suited for the human body. This means it is not just calcium but also magnesium, phosphorus, boron, zinc, gold, copper, and more than seventy other minerals. What really makes it so exceptional is that all of these minerals are present and most importantly that they are all in proper proportion to one another. There is no better mineral supplement in the world than Coral Calcium. Only Sango Coral from Okinawa has the superior life-giving benefits.

And only Marine Bio produces the right coral calcium. Other coral calcium products from Okinawa are not produced with the patented process. Therefore, they are not cleansed of the excessive amounts of lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, nitrate radicals with which all corals in the world are contaminated, and which Marine Bio cleanses out of the coral with its patented process that does not the beneficial parts. Other coral calcium products are not approved for human consumption by the Japanese government and must be mined under false pretenses (such as as an ingredient for construction) and removed from the country before they can be packaged and sold as nutritional supplements. Other coral calcium products are not produced via the patented process that activates the coral and turns the minerals ionic upon contact with water. No other coral product does this, and none become ionic no matter how much water you mix them with. They all must be digested, a very inefficient and difficult process resulting in only 4% to 35% usable minerals and negative side effects. Many coral products from Okinawa are mined on dry land, which means most of their active minerals have been leeched out by the time they are mined, resulting in an inferior product. Marine Bio mines its coral in the deep water out beyond the coral beds, under the strict supervision of the Japanese government, and in such a way that in no way harms the living coral.

The Marine Bio Coral Calcium in the sachet form is absolutely the best because it is absorbed into the body the most completely and in the shortest amount of time. Whereas Vitamin D is needed for the absorption of calcium taken in the conventional form, the Marine Bio Coral Calcium in the sachet form soaked in water does not depend on vitamin D in order to be absorbed because it is already ionic when it enters your body and is absorbed completely into the system immediately through the tissues of the mouth, esophagus, and upper stomach - not the ten to twenty hours that all other calcium supplements require for absorption.

The problem with all forms of calcium and other minerals other than ionic is that the body absolutely cannot use them unless they are in the ionic form. This means all mineral supplements, including Sango Coral Calcium in capsule or caplet form, have to go through the digestive process and will neutralize the stomach acid you need for digestion and will be neutralized by the stomach acid. If you neutralize your stomach acid you will have trouble digesting your food. This is especially true if you are over forty years old because your body only produces a fraction of the stomach acid it did when you were younger. If you neutralize the alkalinity of your minerals by interaction with stomach acid, they lose their alkalizing effect, which is one of the most important reasons for taking minerals in the first place.

See Calcium Product Comparison by Indepenent Laboratory Analysis
See the proof for yourself. Some people simply refuse to drink water. For them, the capsule or caplet form is a better alternative than not taking any calcium at all. But you will always be so much better off with the sachets in water. And anyone looking for health, to achieve it or maintain it, cannot escape the necessity of drinking adequatge amounts of good water.

There are a few Coral Calcium sachets on the market, and they are not all the same. Marine Bio's Coral Calcium sachets are made from 100% Sango Coral from Okinawa, harvested from the ocean floor in an ecologically safe manner that is actually good for the coral beds and supervised by the very strict Japanese government. Only Marine Bio's Coral Calcium sachets are made with 100% Coral processed by the original patented process protected by U.S., UK, French, and German patents. U.S. Patent numbers for Marine Bio's Coral Calcium and only Marine Bio's Coral Calcium 4,463,031 and 4,540,484. Click Official United States Patent and Trademarks Office, enter the patent numbers (do one complete search for each number), and see for yourself exactly why Marine Bio's Coral Calcium product is superior to any other.

The Coral processed by Marine Bio Co., Ltd. is the only Coral product approved by the Japenese government for human consumption in Japan.

The patented process by which Marine Bio's Coral Calcium products are produced does several things. Most importantly, it washes the coral in a special distilled water process that cleanses it of toxic substances which are present in all natural coral, such as high levels of lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and nitrate radicals, while preserving the beneficial elements intact. No other company can make this claim. Also, the patented process activates the minerals so that they will become ionic on contact with water. No other company can make this claim. All other coral products, even when dissolved in water, nevertheless are not ionized and must still be ionized by the stomach acid, with all the negative side effects that entails.

Marine Bio's Coral Calcium is the right Coral Calcium!
